I really wanted to like this story but it just fell short of my expectations。 I really didn’t like Tony from beginning to end。 He was the biggest a-hole and not the kind I like。 Evie was a little better as I sort of like her character especially for standing up to Tony and his BS。 But I’m glad the story ended with just one book as I’m not sure if I would’ve read a second book。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 It was a very interesting choice to have the main focus be on Tony Costa， especially as his appearances in the preceding 3 books from the "Sinners of Boston" were not favorable。 In fact I found my opinion of Tony to be just like the other characters in the series - A screwed up addict， son of a mafia Don who's silver spoon no doubt was eternally scooping up copious amounts of drugs and alcohol。 A wanna be gangster who's main contribution is to cast the protaganists in the series as angels in com It was a very interesting choice to have the main focus be on Tony Costa， especially as his appearances in the preceding 3 books from the "Sinners of Boston" were not favorable。 In fact I found my opinion of Tony to be just like the other characters in the series - A screwed up addict， son of a mafia Don who's silver spoon no doubt was eternally scooping up copious amounts of drugs and alcohol。 A wanna be gangster who's main contribution is to cast the protaganists in the series as angels in comparison。I love a good redemption/bad boy arc in books， especially as the bar was set low in Tony's case。***************************************************************SPOILERS******************************************************So laying the foundation of the story for Tony in The Prologue is his being forced to marry enemy biker gang woman to join the 2 factions together or be shot dead。。。 I actually thought based on his previous actions that he would screw up and end up dead。 But what forces you to go along with him in his story and keeps you in the there is Evie。。。She is the antithesis of Tony， Shes only 22 and Tony is pushing 40 and Evie's back story in my mind is she is a diamond in the rough， as the daughter of the Biker gangs President。 Tony is forced to choose a prospective bride purely based on a picture and her innocence （virgin） and delicate beauty is what captivates her and her POV chapters show how she's more than a biker chick。 Tony's preconceived notion is she is a low class woman he has no desire to be with as bikers are trash and he aggressively tries to ban her from seeing or being around her biker family。Seeing his almost impenetrable shell slowly crack when he see's her ambition and skills as a jeweler and her sweetness that gains everyone else's respect and affection。 I think it was harder to fall in love with him as a character compared to the male protagonists in the "Sinners of Boston" but this book isn't called Monster for nothing and as the first book in this series this book will lay the foundations for future books because I think that's the point。Tony's is under no allusion that he's a "monster" because of his addictions and wasted youth that led him down a path of destruction and although he is attracted to Evie he does not feel worthy of her。 Its refreshing that he doesnt pretend or gloss over his past。 That what makes the story interesting is watching Evie unfold through her chapters， she herself stands out and its easier to understand her motivation as she embarks on a life with Tony as the darkness in her life separates the stain she has from the relationship she has to her father。This is beauty and the beast all over but I emphasize it is not laid out as an up to date re-imagining of the classic story。 Its seeing how a damaged man who you see as cold and unfeeling， finding himself seduced not by an overly sexual woman but by someone who's goodness permeates through to him by a character you care about from the start。I enjoyed this book， I got through it in 1 night， why？ straight up feeling an affinity to Evie and almost imagining yourself as her and looking at how she delves into the deep end of a relationship with a man with a lot of baggage but falling for him as Evie does。 It amazes me that it was even possible to care about Tony but I think that the book took too long to get to the payoff that he's someone you care about and trust to be the right man for Evie。 I appreciate that Tony has POV chapters but his chapters were harder to enjoy。 The intrigue about Evie's mother and her （horrible） dad was something that helped funnel Tony's aggressive Monster side but felt a bit forced and repetitive。 His transition to the man he is at the end is a bit harder to enjoy as I didnt feel like it was a natural progression from the crude and quite frankly abusive brusque man to the man Evie loves。 I think the story is more Evie prominent and that Tony was molded around her and that she was more interesting to the reader than Tony。But in summation I did enjoy this book even though it was flawed in places。 The character insight into Tony was conducive to why he is a "monster" but its his leading lady Evie that steals the show for me。Looking forward to future books in this series by Vanessa Waltz。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

Gritty， heart-pounding tale。 I have long been a fan of this author， and this book is the crown jewel。 Anthony is such a complex character， and Evie is perhaps the only one who can unlock his secrets。 I read this book in one sitting as I simply could not put it down。 My breath was locked， my stomach was in knots， I ached for these characters， and I was almost begging for relief。 Fabulous gritty， emotionally draining read。 Can’t wait for more。
